turbotronic lux400 review

Every now and then I come across vacuum cleaners of which I do not know the brand at all. This also applies to the TurboTronic LUX400 (Turbolux): an inexpensive hand-held vacuum cleaner that should be able to vacuum both wet and dry dirt.

I have decided to purchase this Turbotronic handheld vacuum cleaner so that I can test it extensively. In this Turbotronic LUX400 review I share my experiences with this versatile handheld vacuum.

Unboxing TurboTronic LUX400 (Turbolux)

On the packaging of the TurboTronic LUX400 is written in large ‘7-in-1′. From this I can already conclude that there are probably many different accessories included. Let's see what's in the package.

  1. TurboTronic LUX400: the hand-held vacuum cleaner itself, also called the Turbolux
  2. Extension: Allows you to connect other attachments to the handheld vacuum cleaner
  3. Vacuum cleaner hose: a flexible extension hose for hard-to-reach places
  4. Crevice tool: a small nozzle for vacuuming crevices
  5. Rubber attachment: for vacuuming water and liquids
  6. Soft dusting brush: a suction brush with soft bristles
  7. Wall mount: to hang the LUX400 on the wall
  8. Charging cable: you can integrate this with the wall holder (7)

To return to the ‘7-in-1′ promise: this is not a lie.

Suction performance TurboTronic LUX400

To be fair: if I come across a vacuum cleaner with a very low price, I quickly think that the suction performance will be disappointing. A handheld vacuum cleaner with so many extras for less than €50 makes me very curious.

I tested the TurboTronic on several surfaces to find out. In addition, I also did a suction power measurement and an air speed measurement.

Suction performance wooden floors, carpet (high and low pile) and pet hair

The TurboTronic LUX400 has no problem with small and large dirt on a hard floor. The handheld vacuum cleaner comes with a soft dusting brush. This makes it suitable for vacuuming sensitive surfaces. Think of wooden furniture or the dashboard of the car.

This cordless hand vacuum cleaner also scores well on different types of carpet: both small and large dirt are vacuumed up without any problems. I do notice that I have to go back and forth a lot with the handheld vacuum cleaner, because it has a small suction surface.

The packaging says ‘Pet Friendly', but what this means is a big question. A brush for removing pet hair is not included. And with the noise level of this vacuum cleaner – which I'll get to in a moment – many dogs will be scared of this vacuum cleaner.

  • Hardwood floors: 6/10
  • Carpet: 6/10
  • Pet Hair: 4/10

TurboTronic LUX400 suction power and airflow

In order to be able to compare this hand vacuum cleaner with other models, I also test the suction power and the airflow of the vacuum cleaner. The suction power of the TurboTronic hand-held vacuum cleaner is 8 kilopascals (kPa). This is remarkably high for a handheld vacuum.

I measure the airflow at a respectable 14.6 meters per second. As you can see in the photo above I was forced to use duct tape to ensure an airtight connection to my vacuum tester.

User-friendliness of this TurboTronic handheld vacuum cleaner

To investigate the user-friendliness of this TurboTronic handheld vacuum, I looked at several factors:

  • Versatility
  • Charging (battery life and charging time)
  • Weight
  • Noise level

Versatility: suitable for wet and dry dirt

As was just seen during the unboxing, the TurboTronic comes with many different extras. The hand vacuum cleaner is a so-called ‘wet and dry' vacuum cleaner: I can vacuum up both liquids and dry dirt with the LUX400.

Thanks to the many extras, it is very versatile: there is a flexible vacuum cleaner hose that I also discovered in the Philips FC6149 review. I think this is a big plus, because you can vacuum in small corners and crevices so much better: something for which you use a hand-held vacuum cleaner.

The hand vacuum cleaner is a so-called ‘wet and dry' vacuum cleaner: I can vacuum up both wet and dry dirt with the LUX400.

Charging: battery life and charging time

The battery life of this hand vacuum cleaner in the test came out at 19 minutes. This is fine for a hand vacuum cleaner, since you often use it for small jobs. The charging time is also okay: the battery is fully charged again in three hours, which is very fast compared to other cordless vacuum cleaners.

Weight and noise level

The TurboTronic Lux400 weighs 0.5 kilograms. This is a lightweight choice! If we look at the noise level of the vacuum cleaner, I am less happy: my decibel meter indicates a noise level of no less than 83.1 decibels.

This is striking: at various web shops a noise level of 60 decibels is stated. And even on the packaging it literally says: “Silence system”. The meaning of this, like the term “Pet Friendly” is a big question mark for me.

Maintenance: dust container and filters

We are dealing here with a bagless vacuum cleaner: you will therefore have to regularly empty the vacuum cleaner above the trash can. The front of this hand vacuum cleaner is the dust container. You can unclip this to be able to empty it. What I experience as annoying is that I first have to remove the filter and filter holder before I can empty it. If you forget this, you accidentally throw it in the trash.

When you have finished emptying, you must replace the filter with filter holder, again checking whether it has been replaced correctly. If this is not the case, you cannot close the hand vacuum cleaner. In short: a lot of actions for emptying a compact hand vacuum cleaner.

The filter of the hand vacuum cleaner is washable. This is therefore very important with a vacuum cleaner without a bag, since the dust bag normally serves as an extra filter. Read more information about cleaning a HEPA filter.

Conclusion TurboTronic LUX400 review

The TurboTronic LUX400 is a powerful hand vacuum cleaner that scores well on different floor types. It has good suction power and you get a lot of extras, so you can use it versatile. It is also suitable for vacuuming wet and dry dirt. The hand-held vacuum cleaner lasts about 19 minutes on a full battery, which is very good.

We are dealing here with a very noisy vacuum cleaner: with more than 80 decibels, it is a real noise maker. In addition, it is a bit difficult to empty and the accessories feel a bit cheap. I also don't discover a brush for pet hair, which makes it not really suitable for households with pets.

All in all, it is a compact and light hand-held vacuum cleaner for a low price. Perfect if you're looking for a handheld vacuum for small, simple jobs that you don't want to pay too much for.
