An incredibly flexible vacuum cleaner for hard floors
The Dyson Omni Glide is a super flexible vacuum cleaner: the suction brush is capable of vacuuming 360 degrees. And that works very well! Unfortunately, this vacuum cleaner is only suitable for hard floors, as it only comes with a suction nozzle with soft fluffy brushes. Take into account a small dust container and a short battery life, but: you then have a super light and compact vacuum cleaner.

PROS
  • Super flexible and manoeuvrable
  • Lightweight (1.9kg)
  • Incredibly compact
CONS
  • Short battery life
  • Small dust container
  • Not for soft floors

“A whole new way to clean hard floors,” Dyson reports with this new Dyson Omni Glide. It is one of the newest Dyson vacuum cleaners, which is equipped with a 360 degree fluffy brush. A striking suction brush: it is equipped with two soft fluffy brushes.

When Dyson announced this new Dyson vacuum cleaner, I couldn't wait to put it through a thorough examination. After a thorough test, I can proudly share my extensive review with you.

Dyson Omni Glide unboxing: what's in the box?

When I receive the packaging, I immediately notice something: unlike all other Dyson stick vacuums, I do not receive an elongated box, but an almost square packaging. Full content in the image below:

  1. Dyson Omni Glide: the vacuum cleaner itself, with a striking handle
  2. Floor brush: a 360 degree suction brush with two soft fluffy brushes
  3. Mini brush: a motorized turbo brush for pet hair
  4. Worktop accessory: a small nozzle for small surfaces
  5. Crevice tool: an elongated crevice tool for hard-to-reach places
  6. Dusting brush: a brush with soft bristles that you can slide on the crevice tool
  7. Vacuum cleaner rod: a remarkably small vacuum cleaner rod
  8. Wall mount with charger: compact mount to store the Omni Glide

Suction performance of the Dyson Omni Glide

I tested the Dyson Omni Glide – just like in my other reviews – on different floor types. Using different sizes of dirt (small and large dirt), I test the vacuum cleaner on carpet (high-pile and low-pile) and hard floors (laminate). I also check how suitable the vacuum cleaner is for removing pet hair.

Performance: carpet, wood floors and pet hair

The Omni Glide is very suitable for wooden floors: it is equipped with a suction brush with two soft fluffy brushes. These protect vulnerable floors. The floor brush can also be rotated 360 degrees, allowing you to make easy turns. Both large and small dirt is therefore no problem at all!

The vacuum cleaner also scores well on low-pile carpet: you can vacuum small and large dirt without any problem. However, if we look at the performance on deep-pile carpet, there is little to say about it: the suction nozzle immediately jams when I put it on the carpet. But, this was to be expected, since this brush is actually only suitable for hard floors.

During the unboxing it became clear that this Dyson Omni Glide comes with a mini brush. This is a motorized turbo brush that makes removing pet hair very easy.

  • Hardwood floors: 9/10
  • Carpet: 5/10
  • Pet Hair: 7,5/10

Suction power and airflow

In addition to the suction performance on different floors, I always do a suction power and an air speed measurement. These two research results make it possible for me to compare the suction power of different vacuum cleaners.

The Dyson Omni Glide has a suction power of 6 kilopascals (kPa) in normal mode. However, the vacuum cleaner also has a turbo mode: in this mode, the Omni Glide has a suction power of 10 kPa.

The airspeed of the Dyson Omni Glide is 10-11 meters per second in normal mode. In turbo mode, this is about 16 meters per second.

Usability: how fine does the Dyson Omni Glide vacuum?

An important part of my reviews is the user-friendliness of a vacuum cleaner. Because, he can still perform very well on different floor types; If it is very heavy or makes a lot of noise, it is still a bad choice in my opinion.

Weight and range (battery life/charging time)

The Dyson Omni Glide feels very compact and light. It turns out to be very light: at 1.9 kilograms, it comes pretty close to the Dyson Micro 1.5 kg that I tested earlier. Since we are dealing with a cordless vacuum cleaner here, I look at the cord length but the battery life to judge the working range. The Dyson Omni Glide has a battery life of 20 minutes (in normal mode) and takes about 3.5 hours to fully charge.

Maneuverability and noise level

The handle of this Dyson vacuum cleaner is different from many other models: there is a rod instead of a handle. This makes vacuuming even easier. However, this handle is also necessary to make a 360 degree movement with the suction brush. Another striking advantage: the vacuum cleaner can be completely flat on the floor, without the suction brush bouncing up. See proof below!

The noise level of the vacuum cleaner is a bit on the high side: I measure 75.9 decibels with my decibel meter. While this is certainly not a silent vacuum cleaner, it is the average for a bagless stick vacuum. Prefer a quieter vacuum cleaner? Then take a look at my research into the best quiet vacuum cleaner.

Maintaining the Dyson Omni Glide

How easy is the Dyson Omni Glide to maintain? Like all Dyson stick vacuums, there is a ‘No touch' mechanism for emptying the dust container. By the way, this dust container is very small: with a capacity of only 0.2 liters, you will have to empty it after vacuuming once.

The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a HEPA 14 filter. This is a washable filter. In my guide to cleaning a Dyson HEPA filter I showed how easy this is.

Not only the filter is washable: you can also easily disassemble the floor brush and the mini brush, for example to remove stuck animal hair.

Conclusion Dyson Omni Glide review

The Dyson Omni Glide is a very flexible and manoeuvrable vacuum cleaner. In fact: it is perhaps the most flexible vacuum cleaner I have ever tested. The vacuum cleaner has a unique suction brush with two soft brushes. It is also a lightweight choice at only 1.9 kilograms.

Because it's so light and compact, we're dealing with a small 0.2 liter dust container: it's so small that you have to empty it after vacuuming it once. In addition, with 20 minutes of battery life, the battery is empty faster than that of other Dyson vacuum cleaners.

You won't get a suction brush for soft floors with this stick vacuum, which makes it not a good choice for homes with a lot of carpet on the floor. You do get a motorized mini brush, so you can vacuum smaller soft surfaces well.

The vacuum cleaner is very similar to the Dyson Micro 1.5kg.
