Dyson Micro 1.5kg Review
The lightest Dyson at the moment, but not suitable for larger spaces and carpets.

Dyson recently presented a new vacuum cleaner: the new Dyson Micro 1.5kg. As the name suggests, this is a super compact and light stick vacuum.
I bought the new Dyson vacuum cleaner and tested it extensively. In this complete review I tell you everything you need to know about the Dyson Micro 1.5kg. Curious?
Accessories: Dyson Micro 1.5kg unboxing
Like every other vacuum cleaner review, I start with the unboxing of the Dyson Micro. What will I find in the package?
- Dyson Micro 1.5kg:Â a remarkably small vacuum cleaner
- Vacuum cleaner rod:Â the vacuum cleaner rod, with a black metallic finish
- Soft Fluffy floor brush:Â a small, very flexible, fluffy suction brush
- Motorized Turbo Brush:Â A brush for removing pet hair
- Crevice tool:Â an elongated crevice tool for hard-to-reach places
- Soft dusting brush:Â soft brush that can be pushed onto the crevice tool (5)
- Wall holder:Â to store the Dyson against the wall and charge it at the same time
- Charger:Â a charging cable to charge the wireless Dyson
Suction performance: how well does the Dyson Micro score?
As I just noted, we only get a soft fluffy brush with this Dyson vacuum cleaner. If you're not familiar with this Dyson suction brush, it's a motorized brush with a soft roller. This roller protects sensitive floors but can sometimes jam on soft floors. Think of low-pile carpet or high-pile rugs.
Suction performance: small and large dirt on various floor types and animal hair
The soft fluffy brush is very suitable for hard, wooden floors. I notice that he has no problem with small dirt or large dirt. It is therefore a super soft roller, so I don't have to worry about damaging my floor while vacuuming.
Also on short-pile carpet there is no problem with vacuuming small dirt and slightly larger dirt. I do notice that the vacuum cleaner has a little more trouble than on the wooden floors. I do notice some resistance on the deep-pile carpet: but this is logical since the floor brush is actually not suitable for this. The dirt is, however, simply vacuumed up neatly.
- Hardwood floors:Â 8/10
- Carpet:Â 4.5/10
- Pet hair:Â 7/10
Suction power and air speed of the Dyson Micro 1.5kg
With every vacuum cleaner review, always research the suction power of the vacuum cleaner. I use a custom-made vacuum tester for this. This one shows me in Kilopascals how strong the suction is. The suction power of the Dyson Micro 1.5kg comes down to 7 kPa in normal mode and 9 kPa in turbo mode.

In terms of air speed, the vacuum cleaner scores about 10 meters per second in normal mode and 15 meters per second in turbo mode. Compared to other vacuum cleaners, this is on the low side.

User-friendliness: how easy does this Dyson vacuum cleaner work?
I look at various factors for the user-friendliness of the vacuum cleaner. For example, the weight is very important and how easy you can vacuum with it. Since we are dealing here with a cordless vacuum cleaner, the battery life is also an important research factor.
Flexibility, control and versatility
The Dyson Micro 1.5kg is a very flexible vacuum cleaner. The included floor brush goes back and forth very easily. Moving up and down is no problem at all. As I mentioned earlier, this brush is intended for hard floor types. This becomes clear when I pull the floor brush towards me on soft floor types: the brush then starts to tilt.
In terms of handling, the Dyson Micro 1.5kg is different from other Dyson vacuum cleaners. Where you normally have to hold down the button to turn on the vacuum cleaner, this vacuum cleaner has a fixed on/off button at the top. There is a separate button for activating the turbo mode.
Noise level, weight and battery life
We are of course talking about the ‘Micro 1.5kg'. It weighs only 3.3 lbs (1.5 kilograms), making it the lightest vacuum cleaner I've ever tested. The vacuum cleaner is also very compact. Curious to what extent it differs from, for example, the Dyson V11? Check out the differences in the Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Dyson V11 comparison.
To keep the vacuum cleaner as small and lightweight as possible, there is a small battery. And yes, unfortunately that results in a short battery life. The Dyson Micro 1.5kg only lasts 20 minutes. That is a lot shorter than the average stick vacuum (about 60 minutes).
The noise level of the Dyson Micro 1.5kg is about 76 decibels. With this, it is certainly not a silent vacuum cleaner, but for a cordless vacuum cleaner it is not very high.
Maintenance of the Dyson Micro 1.5kg
As with many other Dyson vacuum cleaners, this model also has the ‘No Touch' ejector mechanism. This makes emptying the dust container very easy and you do not come into contact with the dirt.
Speaking of emptying the vacuum cleaner: because of the small dust container of 0.2 liters, you will have to empty the Dyson Micro 1.5 kg every time after use. Above the dust container I discover the filter. This is a HEPA 14 filter with a dust retention of 99.995%. It is possible to clean the Dyson filter by running it under the tap.
Conclusion Dyson Micro 1.5kg review
The Dyson Micro 1.5kg is a very compact and light vacuum cleaner. So light that I included this vacuum cleaner in my research for the best lightweight vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner is very flexible and is very easy to empty. The HEPA 14 filter is washable, making it easy to maintain the vacuum cleaner.
Because the vacuum cleaner is so small and light, you do compromise on a number of properties. For example, there is a super small dust container of 0.2 liters. This means you have to empty the vacuum cleaner much more often than other Dyson vacuum cleaners. In addition, the battery is also a lot smaller: it has a battery life of only 20 minutes.
In my opinion the Dyson Micro 1.5kg a very suitable choice for people who are looking for the lightest possible stick vacuum for small apartments. Do you have a large house and you don't want to constantly have to empty the vacuum cleaner? Then I would rather recommend the Dyson V15.
