The new Philips AquaTrio series was recently launched. It is a cordless stick vacuum cleaner that is equipped with a mopping function. But, didn't Philips already have such a vacuum cleaner? Correct! The Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua series.
I wonder if the Philips AquaTrio is a good successor to the SpeedPro Max Aqua. In this Philips Aqua Trio vs SpeedPro Max Aqua comparison I list the biggest differences and similarities. Good to know: I have tested both stick vacuums extensively: all specifications are based on my own experiences.
Philips AquaTrio vs SpeedPro Max Aqua: differences
When you see both stick vacuum cleaners, it is clear that there are major differences between these Philips stick vacuum cleaners. For example, the AquaTrio has a large water reservoir and I do not discover an LCD screen with the SpeedPro Max Aqua. Let's list the differences.
Mopping function: Mopping versus moistening
Let me start with perhaps the biggest difference: the mopping function. Both vacuum cleaners are stick vacuum cleaners with a mopping function. So you can not only vacuum the floor, but also mop it. However, there is a difference in the type of mopping function.
The Philips AquaTrio is equipped with a floor brush with two roller brushes. These brushes actually scrub the floor.
If we look at the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua, there is only a wet mop pad. It allows you to vacuum and mop in one pass, but it's actually wetting the floor instead of mopping.
Maintenance: manual vs automatic cleaning
The Philips AquaTrio has a very special function: it is a stick vacuum cleaner that can clean itself. When you place the vacuum cleaner in the charging station, you can use the AutoClean function. This automatically cleans the brushes.
With the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua, you have to clean the mop pad manually. In my Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua review, I discovered that you get several mopping pads with the vacuum cleaner.
Weight: AquaTrio much heavier
In terms of weight, there is a big difference between stick vacuums. The Philips AquaTrio weighs more than 4 kilograms (4,224 kilograms to be precise). This is with an empty water tank, so it could even weigh more than 5 kilograms. That is a lot heavier than the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua: it weighs only 2.7 kilograms.
In all my vacuum cleaner reviews I test the suction performance with a vacuum tester and an air speed meter. This allows me to compare vacuum cleaners in terms of suction power and airflow. You can view my measurements in the overview below:
|Measurement||Philips AquaTrio||Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua|
|Suction Power||4 kPa||5 kPa|
|AirFlow||25.8 m/s||13.2 m/s|
With a cordless stick vacuum cleaner, the noise level is often a lot higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner with a bag. If we look at the noise level of these Philips stick vacuum cleaners, it is therefore no surprise that they cannot be labeled as the best quiet vacuum cleaner. For your information: I only speak of a silent vacuum cleaner at a noise level below 60 decibels.
With 76 decibels, the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua is a noisy stick vacuum. During the Philips AquaTrio 9000 Series review, I measured a noise level of 66.9 decibels, which is close to the quietest upright vacuum cleaner I've ever tested: the Tineco Pure S11 One.
Battery life: Philips Max Aqua series wins
Both the AquaTrio and the SpeedPro Max Aqua are cordless stick vacuum cleaners. They work with a battery, which must be charged in order to vacuum. I fully charged the batteries of both vacuum cleaners to see how long they last.
The Philips AquaTrio has a maximum battery life of 46 minutes. However, if we look at the battery life of the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua, that is 65 minutes. This is even longer than I measured during the Dyson V15 Detect review.
Dust container: 0.4 vs 0.6 liters
An important factor of cordless vacuum cleaners is the capacity of the dust container. You want to avoid having to empty the vacuum cleaner constantly. The 0.4 liter dust container of the Philips AquaTrio is slightly smaller than that of the 0.6 liter Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua.
Operation: foot control vs LCD screen
The last big difference is the handling. The Philips AquaTrio is equipped with a handy LCD screen. This not only allows you to keep an eye on the battery life, but also to determine the water supply while mopping.
The Philips AquaTrio is equipped with a handy LCD screen. This not only allows you to keep an eye on the battery life, but also to determine the water supply while mopping.
I do not discover an LCD screen with the SpeedPro Max Aqua. Use your feet to determine the amount of water. With a foot pump you can moisten the mop pad, after which you can mop the floor.
Philips AquaTrio vs SpeedPro Max Aqua: similarities
Although there are many differences, there are also some similarities between the two stick vacuums. So they are both wireless, bagless and equipped with a mopping function. Let's list the similarities.
Vacuum and mop in one movement
Both the AquaTrio and the SpeedPro Max Aqua are upright vacuum cleaners with a mopping function. Although the way of mopping is different, you can vacuum and mop the floor in one movement with both vacuum cleaners. Both stick vacuums are therefore equipped with a water reservoir that you have to fill with water.
In addition, they both come with an extra brush for carpet. This makes the vacuum cleaners also suitable for homes with carpet. It's important to note that the mop function is not suitable for households with a soft floor or carpet. If you have these surfaces, check out here which cordless vacuums for carpets are suitable.
The Philips stick vacuum cleaners are both wireless. They are equipped with a battery that you have to charge in order to vacuum. Both vacuum cleaners have a clickable battery. This allows you to easily exchange the battery for a full battery, if you have an extra battery.
Both the Philips AquaTrio and the Philips SpeedPro Max Aqua have a washable filter. You can easily rinse it under the tap, after which you can use it again. It is important that the filter is completely dried before you put it back in the vacuum cleaner.
Bagless vacuum cleaners
After all, they are both bagless vacuum cleaners. They are equipped with a transparent dust container, so you can easily keep an eye on how full they are. You can empty the vacuum cleaners above the trash can, but preferably do this outdoors. A disadvantage of bagless vacuum cleaners is that you quickly come into contact with dirt.
