Robot manufacturer iRobot today announced a new robot vacuum cleaner: the iRobot Roomba Comba j7+. This robot vacuum cleaner features a fully retractable mopping pad. This prevents carpet and floor coverings from getting wet if the robot vacuum cleaner runs over them while mopping.

Roomba Combo j7+: Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Mopping Function

The Roomba Combo j7+ can vacuum and mop at the same time during one cleaning activity. According to iRobot, this sets the new robot vacuum with mopping function apart from many other 2-in-1 robot vacuums: “Until today, many 2-in-1 robot vacuums and mops provided a poor user experience, either because they required separate, time-consuming cleaning tasks or because they created more clutter by not raising the mopping pad completely high enough to avoid carpets and rugs. Roomba Combo j7+ solves both challenges in a unique way,” said Keith Hartsfield, chief product officer at iRobot.

It is not the first robot vacuum cleaner with a mopping function from iRobot: an iRobot Combo has already been launched. However, the addition of a retractable mop pad is new to the Combo J7+.

Fully retractable mop pad

A robot vacuum with a mopping function can be a problem for a home with carpet. Although there are models that automatically stop mopping when a carpet is detected, it often does not prevent the wet mopping pad from dragging on the carpet. Resulting in a dirty, wet carpet.

When the new Roomba Combo j7+ detects carpet, the mopping pad retracts automatically.

With this new Roomba Combo, that is a thing of the past. This is because it is a fully retractable mop pad. When the new Roomba Combo j7+ detects carpet, the mopping pad retracts automatically.

iRobot OS 5.0

Under the hood of the Roomba Combo j7+ is the new iRobot OS 5.0 software. Suitable for j-series robot vacuum cleaners, this new update allows more objects to be detected and avoided.

Also, more specific places can be cleaned and there is better control over voice control and personalization.

The Roomba Combo j7+ perfectly combines iRobot OS intelligence with beautifully designed hardware to provide customers with a vacuuming and mopping solution like no other, capable of keeping carpets, rugs and hard floors cleaner and fresher every day, helping customers keep their life,” said Colin Angle, CEO of iRobot.
