The biggest difference is that you can also mop with the new Dyson V15s Dectect Submarine.
Dyson recently launched a new stick vacuum cleaner: the Dyson V15s Submarine. It's the first Dyson vacuum that lets you mop. Immediately after the introduction of this stick vacuum with mopping function, I wondered how it actually differs from the Dyson V15 Detect.
In this article I compare the Dyson V15 Detect with the new Dyson V15s Detect Submarine. Discover the biggest differences and similarities and find out which one is best for you.
Dyson V15 vs V15s Submarine: the differences
When you buy a new Dyson you often have a choice of different packages. The difference of the package is in the number of Dyson parts included. For example, I previously compared the Dyson V15 Detect vs Absolute, where I concluded that the only difference is the number of accessories included. It is therefore annoying to see that other websites actually publish different test results, even though it concerns the same vacuum cleaner.
With the V15s Detect Submarine you can mop
Whether this is also the case with the Dyson V15 Detect vs the V15s Detect Submarine is not entirely clear. But what is clear is that with the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine you get an accessory with which you can mop: the Dyson Submarine mop attachment.
When introducing the new Dyson V15s Detect Submarine, Dyson only published a lot of information about this accessory. For example, there is a special hydration system that distributes the water evenly over the floor and the attachment has a water reservoir of 300 milliliters.
Price: Dyson V15s Submarine more expensive
Various media reports that the price of the Dyson V15s Submarine will be around $949. This is quite a bit higher than the regular Dyson V15 Detect, which has a retail price of $749. I would like to emphasize that the difference in price can of course also be the number of accessories included. At the time of writing, it is not yet clear which attachments you will get in addition to the new mop accessory with the new Dyson V15s Submarine.
Dyson V15 Detect vs V15s Submarine: The similarities
The Dyson V15 remains Dyson's flagship model to this day. In the in-depth guide ‘Which Dyson to buy?‘ it becomes clear that the specifications of the V15 Detect are the best: it has the longest battery life, the highest suction power and the best technology under the hood. For example, it is equipped with a piezo sensor, which automatically adjusts the suction power when necessary.
As the name of the new Dyson V15s Submarine suggests, this is the same Dyson model. Although it is not entirely clear, I do assume that the ‘s' after V15 stands for Submarine for short.
‘Detect': green laser technology
What is a clear similarity is that Dyson has given the name ‘Detect' to both models. Dyson uses the word ‘Detect' on stick vacuum cleaners that come with a floor brush with laser technology.
Standard features of a Dyson V15 Detect
It is also highly likely that the specifications of both Dyson V15 Detect vacuum cleaners will be almost the same. Some standard features of the V15 model at a glance:
- LCD Display
- Piezo sensor
- HEPA filtration
- Laser technology
- 60 minutes of battery life

Conclusion: which Dyson V15 Detect is best?
When asked which Dyson V15 Detect is best, the answer depends on your needs. That is why I have listed a number of purchase motivations for each vacuum cleaner.
Choose the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine if:
- you can wait a little longer (release date is September 2023)
- you also want to be able to mop the floor
- there are few carpets in the house
Choose the Dyson V15 Detect if:
- you have a little less budget
- the mopping function is superfluous
- you often have soft floors in your home
I'll close this comparison with the following: whichever Dyson V15 Detect you choose, it's very likely that the performance will be very much the same. The biggest difference is therefore in the included mop nozzle. However, not all specifications have been announced yet. Do you want to be sure of your purchase? Then wait a little longer until I have tested this new vacuum cleaner!
