Dyson recently released two new vacuum cleaners. They are both compact, very light and very flexible. I'm talking about the Dyson Micro 1.5kg and the Dyson Omni Glide.
Recently I have extensively tested both vacuum cleaners, so that I can now compare them well with each other. Discover the biggest differences and similarities in this Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Dyson Omni Glide comparison!
Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Omni Glide: the differences
Let me start with the differences between these two stick vacuums. The vacuum cleaners look very different: for example, there is a different type of handle and suction brush.
Suction brush: one soft roller brush vs two soft roller brushes
Both vacuum cleaners come with a floor brush that has a soft roller brush. With the Dyson Omni Glide, however, you enjoy a 360-degree rotating suction brush. This is equipped with two soft roller brushes: with the Dyson Micro 1.5 kg there is one soft roller brush.

Operating the vacuum cleaners
The handle of the Dyson Micro 1.5kg is comparable to that of other Dyson stick vacuums. The handle of the Dyson Omni Glide is rod-shaped: this is also necessary since you have to be able to make a 360 degree movement there.

The suction brush of the Omni Glide is designed for very flexible vacuuming. This way you can rotate the vacuum cleaner 360 degrees and easily vacuum along walls. This is not possible with the Dyson Micro 1.5kg.
Suction power and AirFlow: Micro 1.5kg slightly more powerful
In my Dyson Micro 1.5kg review I measured a suction power of 7 kPa. This is slightly more than the Dyson Omni Glide: I measured 6 kPa there. The AirFlow is almost the same with both vacuum cleaners: where I measured 10.3 meters per second in the Dyson Omni Glide review, the Airflow with the Micro 1.5 kg was 10 meters per second.
Weight of the vacuum cleaners
The weight of the vacuum cleaners is different. At 1.5 kilograms, the Dyson Micro 1.5 kg weighs slightly less than the Omni Glide. The Dyson Omni Glide weighs 1.9 kilograms.
I emphasize that both models are lightweight. Despite the fact that the Omni Glide is slightly heavier, it is still an incredibly good lightweight choice. Good to know: the Dyson Micro 1.5kg is in my opinion the best lightweight vacuum cleaner if you are looking for a light cordless vacuum cleaner.
Accessories: compact wall holder and extra suction nozzle
There is also a difference in the included extras. With the Dyson Omni Glide you get a smaller wall mount. With the Dyson Micro, the wall holder is a lot bigger (the same as other Dyson stick vacuums).
In addition, with the Dyson Omni Glide you get an extra Dyson attachment: a worktop accessory with which you can vacuum small surfaces.
Biggest differences:
- With the Dyson Omni Glide you can vacuum more flexibly (360 degree floor brush)
- The suction power of the Micro 1.5kg is slightly higher than that of the Omni Glide
- The Dyson Micro 1.5kg is slightly lighter than the Omni Glide; but still very light
- The wall holder is a lot more compact with the Omni Glide and you get a worktop accessory with it
Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Dyson Omni Glide: The Similarities
In addition to the differences, the vacuum cleaners are also similar in many areas. They are about the same size and have almost the same suction performance.
Both suitable for hard (wooden) floors and animal hair
With both the Dyson Micro and the Dyson Omni Glide you will receive a suction nozzle with soft roller brushes. This type of floor brush is only suitable for hard floor types. You can think of laminate and wooden floors.

Both vacuum cleaners also come with a motorized mini brush: with which you can easily remove pet hair from furniture or carpets.
Button control on top of the handle
With both the Omni Glide and the Micro 1.5kg you will not discover a ‘Trigger Power Switch' button that you have to hold down, but separate push buttons on the top of the vacuum cleaner. Both vacuum cleaners also have a separate button for activating the turbo mode.
Same dust container capacity
Both vacuum cleaners are very light and compact. As a result, there is – unfortunately – a very small dust container. Both the Dyson Micro 1.5kg and the Omni Glide have a dust container capacity of only 0.2 liters. In the Dyson Micro 1.5kg vs Dyson V11 comparison you will discover how much smaller this is compared to the average Dyson.

From experience I can say that you should empty the vacuum cleaner immediately after vacuuming once.
Battery: 20 minutes battery life
Not only is the dust container very small: the battery is also a lot more compact with both stick vacuums. And this of course results in a shorter battery life: both the Dyson Micro 1.5kg and the Dyson Omni Glide have a maximum battery life of 20 minutes in normal mode.
Same Noise Level: 76 db
The noise level of both the Micro 1.5kg and the Omni Glide is approximately 76 decibels. This makes them both not silent vacuum cleaners, but compared to other cordless vacuum cleaners, this is relatively ‘normal'.

Biggest Similarities:
- Both vacuum cleaners are only suitable for hard wooden floors
- You get a motorized mini brush with both vacuum cleaners
- Both the Dyson Micro 1.5kg and the Omni Glide have a volume of 0.2 liters
- The vacuum cleaners both have a maximum battery life of 20 minutes
- Both vacuum cleaners have a noise level of about 76 decibels
Conclusion: Dyson Micro vs Dyson Omni Glide
Now that the main differences and similarities of these vacuum cleaners have been discussed, it is interesting to list them.
Dyson Micro 1.5kg | Dyson Omni Glide | |
---|---|---|
Battery life | 20 minuten | 20 minuten |
Suction Performance | 7 kPa | 6 kPa |
Airflow | 10 m/s | 10.3 m/s |
Noise level | 76 decibel | 75,9 decibel |
Motorized minibrush | ✓ | ✓ |
Capacity | 0.2 liter | 0.2 l iter |
Weight | 1.5 kilogram | 1.9 kilogram |
Price indication | $ 399 | $ 449 |
As you can see the differences are not very big. However, if we compare these vacuum cleaners with other stick vacuums, the differences are enormous.
Both the Dyson Micro and the Omni Glide are interesting if you:
- have a small apartment or small house
- want to buy a lightweight and compact vacuum cleaner
- want to be able to vacuum flexibly
- especially wooden floors in your home
In my view, the Omni Glide is an upgrade over the Dyson Micro 1.5kg. This makes vacuuming even easier on hard wooden floors, because of the 360-degree double floor brush. Keep in mind that this one is slightly heavier and has a higher price.
