Dyson Gen5 Detect announced: ‘captures small particles down to 0.1 microns’

Dyson has announced a new cordless stick vacuum. The Dyson Gen5 Detect. It is the successor to the Dyson V15. According to Dyson itself, this new vacuum cleaner is capable of capturing tiny microscopic particles down to 0.1 microns from the air. It is also the first upright vacuum to use the new-generation Hyperdymium motor, which offers a lot more suction power than its predecessors.

The Gen5detect defines Dyson’s next generation of cleaning technology. It is the combination of our dust light optic technology, dust particle counting and sizing, pioneering new motor and whole-machine HEPA filtration, that enables you to achieve our deepest ever clean“, said founder James Dyson.

Dyson Gen5 Detect

The Dyson Gen5 Detect is billed as the ‘most powerful cordless vacuum cleaner'. For example, Dyson reports that there is a suction power of 262 air watts. Notable is the fully sealed HEPA filtration system for the whole stick vacuum. With this system, the new Gen5 Detect stick vacuum cleaner would be able to collect particles down to 0.1 microns.

“The best filter cannot provide clean air if there is an opportunity for dirty air to leak out of the machine – so our engineers worked hard to ensure that all our Dyson vacuums have whole-machine filtration. In our Gen5detect vacuum, we went a step further with HEPA filtration to ensure that even particles as small as 0.1 microns remain trapped in the machine“, said Charlie Park, Vice President of Floorcare at Dyson.

New ‘Fluffy Optic' floor brush

There is also innovation in the floor brush. The Dyson Gen5 Detect is equipped with the new Fluffy Optic floor brush: a suction nozzle with laser technology. We already came across this green laser in the Dyson V15 Detect review. However, this new Fluffy Optic is designed to make twice as much microscopic dust visible.

The laser lighting is now placed lower in the floor brush, so that the light beam has more range. It was quite a challenge: “This was a huge design challenge – to fit the optical, printed circuit board (PCB) and thermal solutions in a small space without compromising the pickup“, said Dyson.

Integrated crevice tool and no trigger button

There are even more striking novelties. For example, the Dyson Gen5 Detect is equipped with an integrated crevice tool. This allows you to transform the stick vacuum cleaner into a hand vacuum even faster.

And that's not all: unlike many other Dyson stick vacuums, the Gen5Detect doesn't have a trigger button that you have to hold down to be able to vacuum. Recently Vacuumtester.com published an article about a Dyson Button lock, with which you can leave such a trigger button on.

New User Interface (UI)

Just like, for example, the Dyson V11 and the Dyson V15 Detect, the new Gen5 also has an LCD screen. However, there is a completely new interface. As a user, you will now see when the surface you are vacuuming is clean. And everything you vacuum can now be admired in real time on the screen with moving bars. This way you know, for example, whether you need to continue vacuuming the carpet to remove pollen.

In addition to a new interface, Dyson has also developed software updates to monitor and control speed, power and temperature in the Gen5 Detect.

Dyson Gen5 Detect Specifications

The Dyson Gen5 differs from its predecessors on many factors. For example, there is a longer battery life than all its predecessors: Dyson promises a maximum battery life of 70 minutes. The dust capacity corresponds to, among others, the Dyson V11: 0.77 liters. View all the specifications of the Dyson Gen5 Detect in the overview below.

Buy Dyson Gen5Detect: price and availability

Do you want to buy the Dyson Gen5Detect? Whether that is possible depends on your location. At the time of writing, the Dyson Gen5Detect is available in Australia and several Asian countries. Dyson America and Europe have not released anything about this new Dyson Gen5 Detect, let alone a release date.

The Dyson Gen5Detect has a suggested retail price of AU$1500. So it's not only the most powerful Dyson, but also the most expensive.
