Best vacuum cleaners with a long cord:
Best long cord vacuum cleaner: Bosch ProSilence BGL8SIl5
Best Long Cord Handheld Vacuum Cleaner: Philips FC6149 (MiniVac)
If you don't buy a cordless vacuum cleaner, you will have to deal with a cord and a plug. While vacuuming, you have to constantly plug the cord into a different outlet to be able to vacuum larger spaces, floors or other rooms.
It is important to familiarize yourself with the maximum range of a vacuum cleaner. If you buy a vacuum cleaner with a cord that is too short, you have to change the plug more quickly. This can be annoying.

Best vacuum cleaners with a long cord
In every vacuum cleaner review I investigate the working range of a vacuum cleaner. With a vacuum cleaner with a cord, I do this by measuring the cord length. I then also measure the maximum range: this is the total distance from the plug to the suction brush.
Best bagged vacuum cleaner with long cord
The Bosch Series 8 In'Genius ProSilence BGL8SIL5 is the best bagged vacuum cleaner with a long cord. This vacuum cleaner has a cord length of no less than 39.3 ft. If I measure the total range of the vacuum cleaner, I arrive at 15 meters. This makes this vacuum cleaner very interesting for a large house or apartment.
Bosch BGL8SIl5

In addition to a long cord, this vacuum cleaner with a noise level of 66.7 decibels is also relatively quiet, this positions the vacuum cleaner as one of the best among the quietest vacuum cleaners. It is also not very heavy at 6.1 kilograms for a canister vacuum cleaner. Some other pluses of this vacuum cleaner:
- The vacuum cleaner hose is provided with textile, which makes it extra sturdy
- The vacuum cleaner has a suction power of 17 kPa, making it a powerful vacuum cleaner
What you should keep in mind is that it is not a compact vacuum cleaner. The suction brush is also very large, which makes the vacuum cleaner less flexible. Want to see the vacuum cleaner in action? Then watch the review video below.
Best hand held vacuum with long cord
They are rare, but they do exist: a handheld vacuum cleaner with a cord! The big advantage is that you don't have to charge the handheld vacuum before you can use it. The Philips FC6149 MiniVac is the best handheld vacuum cleaner with a long cord: it comes with a long cord of no less than 16.7 ft that you can plug into the car charger.
Philips FC6149

The Philips FC6149 comes with an incredible amount of extras. You get a flexible hose and various attachments for vacuuming hard-to-reach places. In addition, there are the following advantages:
- You can charge it in the car
- Comes with a storage bag for all parts
However, you don't get a pet hair brush with this hand vacuum cleaner: this makes it less suitable for removing pet hair. In addition, it is not a cheap hand vacuum cleaner.
How I research the cord length of a vacuum cleaner
In all my vacuum cleaner reviews I check the cord length of a vacuum cleaner. I know that this is also stated on the packaging, but because I sometimes discovered differences, I decided to always check this myself.
However, I am not there yet with only the cord length. I think it is very important to also check the range of a vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner's operating radius is the total length from the plug to the suction brush.
The vacuum cleaner's operating radius is the total length from the plug to the suction brush.
To ensure a valuable measurement, I always adhere to the following rules:
- I unroll the entire cord of the vacuum cleaner: in many cases there is a colored sticker on the cord at the end
- I measure from the plug to the back of the vacuum cleaner
- To measure the vacuum cleaner's range, I put the plug in the socket and provide the vacuum cleaner with a floor nozzle
- The vacuum cleaner's range is measured with the vacuum cleaner in a normal position of use (ie not flat on the ground).
By sticking to the above points in every review, I can compare vacuum cleaners in a valuable way.

Why research a vacuum cleaner with a long cord?
At Vacuumtester.com we do a vacuum cleaner research for a reason. The fact that we measure the cord length in our reviews says it all: it is an important part when buying a new vacuum cleaner.
A vacuum cleaner with a long cord is interesting for the following situations:
- If you have a big house or apartment
- You also want to vacuum in locations with few power points*
* Of course you can always consider a cordless vacuum cleaner. You must take into account the battery life and the charging time of the vacuum cleaner.
Different vacuum cleaners with a cord
If we look at vacuum cleaners that are equipped with a cord, they can be different types. So of course you have the canister vacuum cleaner with a cord, but did you know that there are also handheld vacuums with a cord?
With a vacuum cleaner with a cable, you enjoy the advantage that you never have to charge it. Unlike a wireless battery, you can never run out of power.
Automatic Retractable Cord
A vacuum cleaner cord is often automatically retractable. In many cases, you can automatically rewind the cord by clicking a button on the top of a vacuum cleaner. However, there are also mechanisms where you have to give the plug a small tug, after which it coils itself.
