I speak of a good choice if the vacuum cleaner has no problem with large and small dirt on both long-pile and short-pile carpets. How I research the best stick vacuum for carpet

In all my vacuum cleaner reviews I do research on how good the suction performance is on soft floor types. Whether it concerns canister vacuums or stick vacuums in this case.

Suction performance on soft floor types

I do this with the help of special floor trays, which are fitted with a high-pile and low-pile carpet. Using small (grains of rice) and large (macaroni) dirt I test how well the stick vacuum performs.

In addition to the suction performance on soft floor types, it is also very important to pay attention to the airflow of the stick vacuum with carpet. I measure the airflow in meters per second using an anemometer. This allows me to compare vacuum cleaners for carpet and select the best one.

In this case I look less at the suction power of a vacuum cleaner. A suction power is measured in vacuum (with a vacuum meter in kilopascals). This is less interesting for carpets, since the vacuum cleaner could no longer be pushed forward when a vacuum is created on the floor. In fact, with many vacuum cleaners you can use a slide on the handle to ensure an air leak, so that no vacuum can form on the carpet.

Research methodology

To make sure I do the same on every survey, I adhere to the following rules when testing a stick vacuum on carpets:

• The stick vacuum cleaner must be completely emptied and fully charged
• I always do the floor test with the multi-surface brush, unless a special carpet brush is included
• The research takes place in our own floor bins with two types of dirt

Why I'm researching stick vacuums for carpet

Cleaning carpets can be very difficult: pet hair and pollen in particular are often nestled deep into the fibres. With the right vacuum cleaner, removing pet hair from carpet is child's play.
