When you have a dog or a cat at home, it seems like there's no end to the hair, right? On the cushions, on the couch, and on the rug: you see them everywhere! Fortunately, you can easily remove them with the right vacuum cleaner! I test vacuum cleaners for their ability to remove pet hair. On this page, you'll discover the best bagless vacuum cleaners for pet hair!
What makes a bagless vacuum cleaner suitable for removing pet hair? One of the most crucial factors is a motorized (mini) brush. The rotating brush ensures that, for example, cat hair is easily picked up.
In addition, a vacuum cleaner must naturally have strong suction power and effective filters to prevent odors. Because, of course, we want to avoid a vacuum cleaner that smells like a dog.
Every vacuum cleaner I test undergoes trials on various floor types with different sizes of dirt. An especially crucial type of dirt is pet hair. Having a dog or a cat at home is very pleasant, but inevitably leads to a lot of hair, especially on cushions, fabric furniture, and carpets. Removing pet hair can be quite challenging since it tends to cling to textiles, making it not every vacuum cleaner capable of effectively suctioning up the hairs.
To assess vacuum cleaners for their suitability for pet hair, I test them with real animal hair. The hair is provided by Caesar, a friendly red-haired Maine Coon!
I test the various included accessories of a vacuum cleaner and evaluate how effectively they remove pet hair. As mentioned earlier, the focus is on the motorized brushes that make it easy to remove cat and dog hair.
Not only is a motorized brush crucial, but also the suction power of the vacuum cleaner plays a significant role. The higher the suction power, the better it can pick up dirt. I measure suction power in kilopascals, allowing me to compare different vacuum cleaners.
Whether it's for removing pet hair or dust, when I search for the best bagless vacuum cleaner, I always investigate the filtration level of a vacuum cleaner. A good filter is essential, especially when you have a dog or cat at home. Without a good filter, it can lead to allergic reactions or a vacuum cleaner that emits unpleasant odors.
In my opinion, there should be, at a minimum, a Hepa 13 filter. This type of filter has such a high filtration level that it can effectively filter out pet hair and dander from the air.
As an animal friend, I also consider the noise level of the vacuum cleaner. A noisy vacuum can cause anxiety in dogs and cats (read here why dogs are scared of a vacuum cleaner). It's important to note that this is an additional bonus point and does not impact how well a vacuum cleaner can remove pet hair.
Additionally, it's also interesting to explore how suitable a vacuum cleaner is for other pet-related matters. Just like pet hair, vacuuming cat litter can be a challenge with an inefficient vacuum. If your cat doesn't wipe its paws when stepping out of the litter box, be sure to check out my research on the best vacuum cleaner for cat litter!
