In the past, vacuum cleaners had a round, cylindrical-shaped container (canister vacuum cleaners are also often called cylinder vacuum cleaners). You still see this shape in wet-dry vacuums used, for example, in workshops. It’s highly likely that they got that name from this characteristic shape.

That’s a very thoughtful consideration, and it’s great that you’re checking with me. The Miele Boost CX1 is a relatively new model. Miele may make incremental improvements over time; for example, after 2 years, the Miele HX1 – a stick vacuum – became the HX2. These developments are usually minimal, so you don’t need to worry in the coming years. Plus, Miele is known for its excellent quality and long lifespan! 🙂

I’ve spent some time delving into the structure of the serial numbers, but I don’t see any way to determine the year (although you can often find out where in the world the vacuum cleaner was produced and sold). Usually, you can get an idea of the approximate age of a vacuum cleaner from the model number. For example, the Dyson V12 comes in SV26 and SV20 versions.

In my opinion, the Henry Quick can’t really be compared to any other stick vacuum in terms of price, because it comes with a dust bag. This makes it unique and for people with a dust allergy this is worth a slightly higher price. In my review (read it here: https://www.vacuumtester.com/henry-quick-review/ )I have come to the conclusion that there is a very good price / quality ratio.

I’m sorry to hear that. The fans in the vacuum cleaner may have been broken by the shoelace (they may have jammed when the shoelace was vacuumed). I recommend that you first check the vacuum cleaner for any bits of lace (perhaps the ends?) to make sure it’s not causing the noise. If you’ve checked everything and the noise is still there, I recommend that you have it checked by a repair person.

Hi Anne, Did you put the filter in the right way? When you put the filter upside down in the Dyson, it may not be closed properly, so the Dyson indicates that the filter needs to be replaced. The back of the vacuum cleaner must also be screwed on properly.

That does indeed sound as if the power is no longer properly passed on to the motorized floor brush(s). I recommend that you check the warranty with Dyson before starting any repairs yourself.

Thank you for your response. First of all, I do not only measure the suction power in Kilopascals with a vacuum tester, but I also measure the AirFlow (in meters per second). There is a big difference between suction power and airflow, so I am indeed testing both.

Apart from that, it’s good to realize that the number of watts (what you claim) says nothing about the actual suction power. There are many studies that show that the number of watts has no influence on the actual suction power. The number of watts has decreased in recent times (in the Netherlands there is even a maximum of 900 watts) while the suction power has improved considerably.

I myself am a fan of the Philips FC9745/09 PowerPro Expert, a bagless vacuum cleaner and all-rounder. It has a very good suction power and it is very pleasant to use.

However, it is poorly available in America, but every now and then it is on Amazon.

Hi Lily, that’s a logical thought. However, not all filters are made of materials that can be wet. Washing a non-washable filter can result in a non-functional filter, odors, and in the worst case, a malfunctioning robot vacuum. So, be cautious.

Kyle, I did some research and I’m 100% convinced this is your problem:

A fast flashing blue light indicates no power or a temporary fault (e.g. check filter or for blockages). You need to either clean or replace your filter.

This is either one of the four things that can be the case which I mention in the article. (Which is completely re-written!) Your research and thoughts however do sound like the battery has lost its power. Avoid Turbo mode on the Dyson is something I have to keep on saying here. The v11 batteries are quite expensive to replace as well, unfortunately, you can see them here. (not in stock on Amazon)

It’s quite possible that it’s broken. This often happens with trigger buttons. I’ve written an article on how you can replace this Dyson trigger yourself.

Can you please check which model you have? The Dyson V13 is not an existing model (it could be the Dyson V12 Slim or the Dyson V15 Detect).

Hi Gabriele, I don’t know exactly what you mean. A blue light is often an indication that your battery needs to be charged or that there is a blockage in the air ducts somewhere in the vacuum cleaner. The Dyson will also stutter.

The problem is probably with the battery not being a Dyson original battery. In your case I would try contacting the Dyson helpdesk!

It’s annoying that the blockage keeps coming back. Did you also see my video where I check all the air ducts? You could also check if all the parts fit together properly.

I can’t say for sure if it’s Hot Glue from a glue gun. I will investigate this further. However, this does not alter the fact that Dyson emphasizes that this is to discourage replacing parts yourself. In addition, not everyone is waiting for the Hot Glue to melt or to cut away glue to replace a button. For now: very good question, I will investigate this!

In that case, it sounds like a motor issue. Most likely, replacing the main body is the only solution. I assume you’ve thoroughly cleaned the filter and checked the accessories for any dirt as well.

It is best to let the Dyson dry for a very long time and well in these cases. Do not accelerate the drying process (for example, do not place it on the heating). Do not turn the Dyson back on until you are sure it is completely dry.

If it still smells bad you could buy a new filter.

In the future it is smart to keep the Dyson itself well away from water. This can also result in a defective Dyson and of course we don’t want that :).
